Chapter 28
Eliza
âWhat are you doing?â
Razik glanced at her before he returned his attention to whatever he was looking at. It appeared to be aâ¦bowl.
The thing was gold with various small gems of red, green, and blue inlaid along the rim. It sat atop a pedestal in the hall outside one of the dining rooms at the Siofra palace.
Razikâs arms were crossed, his head tilting as he studied the bowl. âThis is very old. From before the Great War,â he answered.
âFascinating,â she mumbled. But when Razik continued to stare at it, she narrowed her eyes. âAre you planning to steal this bowl?â
Sapphire eyes slid to her. âNo.â
âAre you sure? You seem rather intrigued by it.â
âIt is very valuable.â
Her eyes went wide. âYou want to take it to your cave. You really have a cave, donât you?â
âWhy would I lie about that?â
âWho has an actual cave, Raz?â
His eyes seemed to darken at the nickname. âI told you, itâs a dragon thing.â
âCassius doesnât seem to need a cave,â she countered.
âHe cannot shift fully into a dragon.â
âDoes Tybalt have a cave?â
âYes.â
Laughter bubbled from between her lips, and he turned to face her fully at the sound. Her mirth died out as he held her stare. Always so intense.
âYou havenât braided your hair yet,â he said.
Her brow furrowed. Her red-gold hair hung in sweeping curls, flowing over her shoulders. âIâll braid it before we leave.â He just hummed, still watching her. âAre you ready to go?â she finally asked, turning away and beginning to walk down the hall.
He fell into step beside her. âIâve been ready to go for a week now.â
So had she. They were leaving for the Fire Court today. Theyâd been waiting, and now they were finally going. Sheâd refilled his power reserves, then sheâd needed the time to refill her own. Theyâd been in communications with the Witches, had been filled in on the rebel movements in the mortal lands being led by Julietteâand apparently Nuriâand now the Tyndell siblings, along with Callan and Azrael. They knew Scarlett and the others were going for the lock soon, so theyâd waited. Everything needed to be timed perfectly, and with Rayner sending word that the lock had been retrieved yesterday, they could finally put their own plans into motion.
Despite Razikâs warning that they would discuss him sleeping in her bed, he hadnât brought it up the next morning. Or the next, or the next. In fact, he hadnât said one damn word about the bond. Heâd continued to share her space and sleep in her bed, but he did not touch her when he climbed beneath the sheets. She knew on the mornings that she woke up nestled into his side, it had been her seeking him out in her sleep and not him initiating anything.
Which was just great.
But still, he said nothing, and she wasnât about to bring it up. Even if she was finding herself watching him more over the top of her book when theyâd retire to their sitting room in the evenings.
